Why Fresh Produce?

Have you been to Fresh Harvest on a distribution day? If you have, you’ve seen the quality of fresh produce that we provide. If you haven’t, click below to view our Distribution Day video.

The produce we serve is specially purchased for our families to ensure it is of the highest quality and freshness. Oftentimes, struggling families are forced to purchase inexpensive calorie dense foods offering low nutritional value. We want to provide our families with every opportunity for success starting with fresh healthy foods to fuel their minds and bodies.

As your family has probably noticed, the cost of healthy eating continues to climb whereas the cost of fast food or a box of mac & cheese remains relatively low. Because of this, many families in need of food assistance suffer the health effects of a low cost low quality diet. These health effects may include obesity, diabetes, chronic fatigue, and depression… just to name a few. All of these conditions exacerbate financial stress and add to the challenge of overall wellness.

The benefits of eating fruits and vegetables are enormous. Here’s just a few to ponder…

~  Fruits and veggies are low in calories and their fiber fills your belly so you’re less likely to overeat empty calories.

~  Vitamins and phytonutrients found in plant foods strengthen your immune system lowering work and school absences due to illness.

~  Most fruits and veggies are low on the glycemic index and won’t spike blood sugar levels. This provides energy without the highs and lows of blood sugar swings. No more after lunch sluggishness or cravings!

~  They’re a convenient snack and many are naturally available in snack size making them a perfect on-the-go or lunchbox treat!

~  Fruits and veggies are rich in nutrients giving you lots energy and helping you feel healthy throughout the day… nature’s perfect confidence boost!

If you believe this is a message worth sharing, please pass it along to your friends and family. With your support, all of our families can benefit from a nutritious diet.
